You could say that this is one heck of a honeymoon!
In September 2004 while my wife and I were making the
final preparation for our wedding, she called my
office and asked that funny question, "Are you sitting
down?" Since we have both been married before I
thought oh no she is getting cold feet, I asked her
what was wrong her words are those that I'll never
forget, "I am getting deployed."
When I asked, "In two weeks."
My reply was, but we are getting married in two weeks
aren't we?
"Yes," she said.
Then the next two weeks were a blur of her preparing
for deployment by having to do a two week annual
training with the new unit she is deployed with and me
trying to follow up on all of the wedding plans.
The short version of this story is that my wife, SGT
Suzanne Honeycutt and I were married as planned on
Saturday, 18 September 2004 and she departed for
deployment on 20 September 2004 for her deployment to
Iraq.
So yes half of my heart is in Iraq, I am so proud of
her. I spent 21 years active duty and now I am on the
other side of the coin, serving as a single parent
taking care of things at home, being Mr. Mom.
All I want to say to anyone who reads this is I am not
looking for pity, I just want to say how proud I am of
my wife a Soldier proudly serving her country.
Thank You for allowing me to share my pride and story
with you.
Sincerly Rick Honeycutt (SFC Retired)
